Training Tips and Tricks: Different Types of Barking
Did you know that our dogs communicate with us through different kinds of barking?
Training can help you “speak dog” and decode what they’re trying to tell you! Dogs rarely just bark to bark. The most common types are alert barking and excitement/play barking. Alert barking is your dog’s way of trying to tell you there’s something going on. This can be very repetitive and is usually mixed with growl type noises and is lower in pitch.
There is also excitement barking, which is usually more high-pitched and has frequent breaks between barks. Play barks tend to be high pitched as well, and can have a pattern to them and are usually accompanied by play bows and a happy tail wag!
